Honoring Swarthmore’s Class of 2026

There is a unique magic in the air at Swarthmore during the final weeks of May. It’s a time when years of late-night study sessions at McCabe Library and deep discussions in the Crum Woods culminate in a single, triumphant walk across the stage.

For the Class of 2026, Commencement is set to be a truly grand affair, moving to the Highmark Mann Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, May 24th. While the location has expanded, the spirit remains rooted in the traditions that make Swarthmore special. At The Inn at Swarthmore, we are honored to serve as the hub for families gathering to toast their graduates.

The Traditions: Roots That Run Deep

Even with the ceremony moving to a larger stage, the weekend is defined by intimate, long-standing traditions held right here on campus:

  • Last Collection (Friday): Stand in the Scott Outdoor Amphitheater as the sun sets, listening to reflections from faculty and students. The candlelighting ceremony remains one of the most poignant moments of the four-year journey.

  • Baccalaureate (Saturday): A quiet, reflective hour in the Quaker tradition. It’s a moment to pause and consider the "moral and spiritual roots" of education before the Sunday celebration.

  • Rose Selection (Sunday): Early Sunday morning, graduates will continue the tradition of selecting a hand-picked rose from the Scott Arboretum to wear on their gowns, a beautiful link to the campus landscape they’ve called home.

Logistics Made Luxurious

While the ceremony takes place in Philadelphia, staying at the Inn ensures you avoid the city’s graduation-day gridlock.

  • The Commute: The College provides shuttle transportation to the Mann Center departing from Fieldhouse Lane, just a short walk from our front door.

  • The "Town Center" Hub: Saturday evening features the Swattie Send-Off in the Town Center, literally steps from the Inn. Join us for food trucks, live music, and fireworks to kick off the celebration.

  • Commemorative Gear: Visit the Campus & Community Store attached to our lobby to pick up diploma frames and Class of 2026 alumni apparel throughout the weekend.

A Place for Family Reunions

With guests traveling from across the country (and the world), your guest room at the Inn is more than just a place to sleep; it’s your family’s headquarters.

Between the Friday department receptions and the Sunday ceremony, we invite you to gather at Broad Table Tavern. Whether it’s a celebratory brunch or a quiet moment to catch up with grandparents in our lounge, our mission is to provide the same thoughtful hospitality that has supported your student during their time here.

Experience the Heart of Campus: Limited Commencement Availability

We have a limited number of rooms now available for Commencement weekend. By reserving your stay at The Inn at Swarthmore, you place yourself just steps from the candle-lighting at Last Collection, the Swattie Send-Off, and the shuttle departures—ensuring you are present for every cherished moment without the stress of a commute.

Secure your room today and make the Inn your home base for this once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
